Step number one, getting acrylic paint out. Try to get a lot of it up with a paper towel. Do you see all this kind of bulbed up? You can get a lot of the painting material out with just a little bit of paper towel. You’re not going to rake it into the carpet. You’re going to be really gentle and try to get as much of the material off as possible.

Little bits come up. And this is the big spot we want to get a lot up of. Definitely, use a wedge and try to lift off a lot of this paint. This is paint we’re not going to have to worry about cleaning and scrubbing.

You can also gently tap down. Get a lot more of that loose paint up. Do this a couple of times and then call it good. Make sure that you’re not getting any paint on yourself. You don’t want to be rubbing that around.

Now, get yourself a sponge. Get yourself a little bit of water too. Pour some water on the acrylic. That’ll do a couple of things. And then put the sponge over it. First off, this will keep the acrylic from drying too soon, so it gives you a little bit extra time. You notice the green looks like it’s going to town.

Then get yourself some basic run of the mill carpet cleaner spray. Spray judiciously. Now with the rough side of your sponge is you need to start scrubbing things out a little bit.

If you still notice a lot of green popping up get a paper towel. Or maybe a new one. Go back over it and also do a little bit of scrubbing yourself with the paper towel. You’re going to notice that the acrylic is going to start coming out. You’re going to keep getting less and less green in your stain.

You’re going to keep repeating this process until the acrylic’s all the way out. Because what you’re going to notice is the more water and everything, look at a center area. That’s looking pretty good. A lot of the acrylic’s out of there. So you’re going to want to keep applying this. Before then you can get all the paint up and out of your carpet.

  1. Acrylic paint is one of the worst paints to get on a carpet or on anything, to be honest. It’s extremely hard to get rid of and I have had to clean up a couple of messes where it had spilled. Anyways, if you follow this guide you’ll have an easy time removing the paint.

  2. I have been struggling with how to get acrylic paint out of my carpet. My teenage daughter who loves to paint had a pretty bad accident with the paints and nothing I have tried has worked. I didn’t think to just keep going over it again with a carpet cleaner. I am going to try that with what I have first and if all else fails, get a more powerful cleaner.
